- Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership
The Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership (the Academy) is dedicated to developing teaching and school leadership excellence through the provision of advanced professional learning commencing in 2022.
Through the design and delivery of specialised professional learning programs, the Academy will improve student outcomes by increasing the effectiveness and impact of teaching and school leadership practice in our schools.
As a new statutory authority led by a Board comprising education experts and members from all school sectors, the Academy will have a public profile that champions the entire teaching profession and in so doing, will promote and instil greater public trust and confidence in every Victorian school.
The Academy’s flagship offering is the Teaching Excellence Program, a 1-year initiative aimed at developing exceptional teachers from Victorian government, Catholic and independent schools. In an Australian-first it will provide an opportunity for highly skilled teachers from all sectors to collaborate, learn and develop their skills in service to students and communities across Victoria.
Building on the work of the Bastow Institute of Educational Leadership, the Academy will offer an expanded suite of leadership programs for government school leaders at every career stage, from emerging and middle leaders to principals and system leaders.
Independent Schools Victoria and Catholic Education Commission of Victoria continue to deliver leadership programs for their respective sectors.
The Academy will be based at a purpose-designed facility at 41 St Andrews Place in Melbourne’s Treasury precinct, at the existing Bastow facility in North Melbourne, and at seven regional campuses across Victoria.
These regional academies will ensure high-quality programs are accessible to teachers and school leaders in our rural and regional schools.
This expansion of the Academy’s physical presence will provide teachers access to high quality professional learning programs outside of metropolitan Melbourne which will contribute to attracting, retaining, and developing a highly skilled regional workforce.
