It will focus on clarifying the needs of your students, designing their learning, teaching Number and Algebra more effectively and analysing how well current practices assess for entry levels, growth and development.</p><p>The facilitators bring a wealth of practical knowledge and experience from the maths classroom combined with insights drawn from contemporary research. In this workshop ​they will support you to consider:</p><div><p></p><ul><li>the attitudes and motivations of your students</li><li>the AusVELS mathematical proficiencies (Fluency, Understanding, Problem Solving and Reasoning)</li><li>key aspects or essential concepts ​​enabling students to progress in Number and Algebra</li><li>how to work out why a student might not be progressing as well as expected.</li></ul><div> <span style="color:#263338;font-family:betasansnorm, sans-serif;font-size:24px;line-height:1.4;">A</span><span style="color:#263338;font-family:betasansnorm, sans-serif;font-size:24px;line-height:1.4;">bout the facilitators</span><br></div></div><p></p><p> <img src="/Assets/Speakers/TonyFlack.jpeg" align="right" alt="" style="margin:5px;width:150px;height:225px;" /> <strong>Tony Flack</strong> is an educator with a wide range of experience in the field. He has held a number of roles in secondary schools and taught in Australia and the United States, where he worked closely with teachers to develop their Maths teaching and leadership skills. Tony has lead professional learning forums for both primary and secondary teachers in Australia and overseas. While in England he worked as a presenter in the Teacher Effectiveness Enhancement Program and visited classrooms to evaluate maths curriculum materials developed as part of the Bowland Maths project. In his time with the Gippsland Region, Tony worked as the Latrobe Valley and West Gippsland Numeracy Project officer, providing ongoing support for both National Partnerships and State funded Primary Maths Specialists. In this role he lead professional learning forums, coordinating work with other schools and arranging and facilitating full day workshops in numeracy and PLT leadership.</p><p> <strong>​Larissa Raymond </strong>is currently an associate at <img src="/Assets/Speakers/LarissaRaymond.jpeg" align="right" alt="" style="margin:5px;width:150px;height:216px;" />EdPartnerships International. She has extensive experience in co-designing and facilitating programs with various education, government and community sectors. Many of these programs focus on <span style="line-height:1.3;">contemporary pedagogical approache</span><span style="line-height:1.3;">s to learning and leading learning, with a particular focus on the leading of numeracy learning.</span></p><p> <span style="line-height:1.3;"> Larissa also works at the Australian Catholic University co-designing and facilitating Mathematics tutorials with pre-service teachers while supporting both Primary and Secondary schools in a 'partnering to learn'’ role with a strong focus on designing strategically to change and improve. Larissa has supported leadership teams to establish whole school 3-5 year mathematics strategic plans and aided teachers to interpret and use data and other evidence to identify the various learning needs of students</span><span style="line-height:1.3;">.</span></p></div>Secondary Mathematics: Number and Algebra
