School Funding Support

Bastow Institute of Educational Leadership (Bastow) provides accommodation and small school funding support for eligible Victorian government schools.

Funding is paid to the school (not the participant). Claims for funding:
  • must include tax invoices and receipts as supporting evidence of expenditure
  • must be made within six months of attendance at Bastow professional learning
  • are subject to confirmation of attendance and evidence of expenditure.

Accommodation

An accommodation subsidy is available to Victorian government schools to support participant attendance at professional learning delivered by Bastow.

To be eligible for this subsidy, the participant’s school must be 100kms or further from the venue where the Bastow professional learning is delivered.

Schools can claim a subsidy of up to $150 for each workshop day a participant attended. This subsidises costs associated with accommodation, breakfast, travel and parking.

For example, if a participant attends four workshops days, the school can be subsidised for up to $600 (4 days x up to $150 per workshop day).

It is the responsibility of the participant or the school to book and pay for accommodation and travel arrangements and then claim the subsidy.

Note: This subsidy does not apply to residential components of professional learning where accommodation is organised and paid for by Bastow. However, one day for travel or accommodation (if required) to attend the first day of the residential program will be subsidised.

Small schools

A subsidy is available to Victorian government schools with an enrolment of 100 students or less to support principals or acting principals to attend Bastow professional learning.

Costs associated with the employment of a Casual Relief Teacher (CRT) to backfill the principal or acting principal while they participate in Bastow professional learning, are subsidised.

Small schools can claim a CRT subsidy of up to $300 for each workshop day the principal or acting principal attended.

For example, if a principal or acting principal attended four workshop days, the school can be subsidised for up to $1200 (4 days x up to $300 per workshop day).

It is the school’s responsibility to book and pay for the CRT and then claim the subsidy.

The small school subsidy is additional to the accommodation subsidy provided to schools 100km or further from the venue where Bastow professional learning has been delivered.

Processing claims

Schools can submit claims for subsidies via the Schools Targeted Funding Portal (requires DET login), in alignment with the Department’s ‘Schools Targeted Funding Governance’.

Follow instructions as set out in the guides and checklists under Schools Targeted Funding Documents, Audience: School.

Bastow will raise Initiative Agreements monthly, based on claims registered at the links above.

Schools are advised to periodically review the Schools Targeted Funding Portal for notification of approved Initiative Agreements, signalling claims can now be submitted for payment.
