Collaborate with your principal to develop an improvement plan that focuses on sustained improvement in teacher practice and student outcomes.

This course equips you with the knowledge and skills to work with your school community, focusing on sustained improvement in teacher practice and student outcomes.

This is the core course in our learning specialist suite designed to support newly appointed learning specialists to excel in their role.

Audience 

Designed for learning specialists and principals. 

This course runs over 9 months.

Learning specialist participation

You are expected to engage in and contribute to:

  • 2 workshop days - one at the beginning, one towards the end
  • 6 online learning modules including a virtual workshop, discussions, collaboration and sharing of resources with members of your learning community
  • in-school investigations, evidence gathering and context analysis
  • ongoing professional discussions and learning with your colleagues and leaders.

Principal participation

You are expected to engage in and contribute to:

  • 2 workshop days - one at the beginning, one towards the end
  • in-school investigations, evidence gathering and context analysis of the capability building as per the VGSA learning specialists responsibilities.

By participating in this course, you will develop an understanding of:

  • the roles and responsibilities of the principal, leadership team and learning specialist to develop and support a high performance learning culture
  • your school’s internal and external contexts to identify factors that may impede or facilitate school improvement including organisational structures and processes
  • how to support interpersonal practices that promote a collaborative, rigorous, and focused approach to improvement
  • how to guide a planned and strategic approach to change that will privilege time for developing individual teaching practice to continually deliver high quality teaching and learning
  • a school-wide approach that will further support teachers to engage in purposeful professional learning opportunities, sharing and adopting evidence-based practice, collaborating, observing, giving and receiving feedback
  • how to use the FISO improvement cycle to drive school improvement and improve student outcomes.

Fully subsidised for appointed learning specialists in Victorian government schools.
