COVID-19 update for Bastow participants

Principal Mentoring

Support for principals from trusted peers with first-hand experience and understanding of the challenges and rewards of the role.

The principal role is exciting, unique and challenging. The knowledge required covers an unprecedented range of disciplines – especially during times of rapid change.

Bastow’s Principal Mentoring program connects principals with trained mentors, who are highly skilled retired principals. Mentees partner with a mentor for their expertise and support as they act as a sounding board and trusted advisor.

As a mentee, you’ll be matched with a mentor according to your learning needs in the context of your school setting and career aspirations. The mentoring experience involves shaping your own outcomes with the support of your mentor.

You’ll have access to 12 hours of mentoring over 6 months and the program allows you to manage when and how you access the support. During coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions, all mentoring will be online only.

Mentors have expertise in a range of areas including leading pedagogy, data analysis, human resource and financial management, technical skills, change management and innovation.

The Principal Mentoring program is designed for principals and acting principals at any stage of their career.

Assistant principals (depending on context) may also be eligible for the program. To discuss your eligibility, email Gina Suntesic, Senior Projects Officer – Principal Programs at or Bella Di Lullo, Course Coordinator at
