Support for Newly Appointed Principals

The Professional Support for New Principals program is currently being delivered to newly appointed principals across Victoria. This program provides first-time principals with tailored, context specific support over 18 months to assist in their transition to their new role, and to build their capabilities as effective school leaders.

The program has been redesigned for 2013 delivery, with a range of enhancements offered to participants. The most powerful component of the 2013 program is the matching of new principals to experienced principals as their coach. New principal participants have recounted their sense of support provided through this partnership. Together and over time, they have been able to define and work towards agreed learning and developments goals, and develop valuable and supportive professional relationships.

Three intakes of the Professional Support for New Principals program are currently being delivered, with 69 new principals participating across Victoria. The fourth intake started in early Term 4 once principal appointments had been finalised.
