Bastow Changemakers

Bastow Changemakers supports the Positive Climate for Learning priority area identified within the Education State Framework for Improving Student Outcomes. This course provides you with an opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills to bring about change in your school under the guidance of experienced leaders and change agents.

​​The course is designed specifically for teachers working in schools that serve disadvantaged communities. You engage with concepts related to innovation, design thinking, strategy and leadership, applying this learning through a practical change project in your school. The course also enables you to learn with and from emerging leaders located in other Victorian government schools.

Bastow Changemakers supports you, either as an individual or in a school team, to lead an innovative and ambitious change project that tackles complex challenges facing your school community. Some of the innovative solutions initiated by past participants that have made a meaningful and lasting impact are in areas including (but not limited to):

  • school engagement
  • student attendance
  • catering for students with diverse needs.

Designed for emerging leaders who are passionate about leading change to help address issues in their school setting, including student disadvantage.​

The innovative Latrobe Valley Flexible Learning Option campus (LV FLO) opened in mid-2014 to provide an alternative education option for the region’s disengaged youth. LV FLO is the result of a partnership between the Valley’s three government secondary colleges: Kurnai, Traralgon and Lowanna.

Bronwyn Joyce in India

ICT and globalising the classroom. When Bronwyn Joyce looks back over the past 18 months, she can’t quite believe what she, her school and her students have achieved. In 2013, Bronwyn not only found herself presenting to 5000 people at an educational workshop in India, but she also travelled to China and presented at the iEARN Global Education Conference in Qatar – all a very long way from the small primary school in regional Traralgon where she teaches.
